2 days after New Years '11- '12 Horn, Jono and myself embarked on a mission on the South Coast Track. We flew in to Melaleuca and walked out to Ramsgate (Cockle Creek - just south of Hobart). It took us 7 days. Quite possibly the most diverse and invigorating hike I've done so far. I found everything from glorious white beaches to wet jungle to dry bushland and alpine traverses. I would suggest this adventure to anyone with two legs and a mind for adventure.
NB - The pictures, save a few, are not in order.
Flying over Hobart.
The mud was rather deep in parts...
River crossings were a fantastic way to frolick in the water and cool off after many hours in the sun.
Prion beach was completely empty. Exactly how a beach should be.
A friend of the forest.
A tannin stained river.
On the last night this made for a refreshing, albiet cold shower.
Three intrepid twits.
Jono had a great time living his inner pig.
The Ironbound Range on day 3/7 consisted of a 900 metre climb from sealevel in about 1.5 kms.
Federation Peak. The apex for many Tasmanian walkers.
Jono managed to pick up some serious blitering on his feet. From about minute two of the seven day hike, our feet were wet.
The Ironbound Range looming ominously.
Bushcabaret?
Surprise Beach held some tasty treats for us, most notably the gargantuan storm that forced us on our way about 5 minutes after this picture was taken.
